Tanah Lot, Bali

This sacred temple, Tanah lot, perched on the shore is aptly named, as “tanah” means earth and “lot” means sea. Tanah Lot built in the 16th century has the most amazing scenery in the world and is one of the most important seaside temple in Bali. The temple is located on a huge rock near the beach. During high tide, the temple is surrounded by the sea and the road is cut off from the land. The road only shows up during low tide.

Tanah Lot means “Land in the Middle of the Sea” (in Balinese language) and is a famous tourist spot in Indonesian island of Bali.

The area leading to Tanah Lot is highly commercialized and people are required to pay to enter the area. To reach the temple, visitors must walk through a carefully planned set of Balinese market-format souvenir shops which cover each side of the path down to the sea. On the mainland cliff tops, restaurants have also been provided for tourists.
